foam Spermicidal foam is a non-prescription contraceptive that is easy to use, easy to obtain, and moderately effective in preventing pregnancy. Spermicidal foam has the consistency of shaving cream and contains spermicide which is a chemical that kills sperm. The foam is placed into the vagina. Spermicidal foam helps prevent pregnancy in two ways: the foam forms a physical barrier to the entry of sperm into the cervix, and the spermicide immobilizes and kills the sperm.

Foam is a moderately effective contraceptive method when used alone. When foam is used in conjunction with condoms, it's effectiveness is increased. Foam can slightly reduce the chance of contracting common vaginal infections; however, it should not be considered an effective deterrent to preventing the transmission of sexually transmitted diseases.

Some people may find that a particular brand of foam causes burning or irritation. This can usually be remedied by switching brands.

Foam has an unpleasant taste and may inhibit oral sex if inserted beforehand. Some people object to the use of spermicidal foam because sexual activity must be interrupted to use the foam. Failure to use foam consistently and correctly can lead to method failure.

Effectiveness
Theoretically, foam is 94% effective when used correctly with each act of intercourse. The actual use effectiveness is 78%. This takes into account nonuse, misuse, and mechanical failure.

Effectiveness can be increased if condoms are used in conjunction with spermicidal foam.

Other forms of vaginal spermicides (including creams, jellies, suppositories and film) are considered similar in effectiveness as contraceptive foam, although foam appears to be the easiest to use.

 Vaginal Contraceptive Film
VCF vaginal contraceptive film is a very thin square of material that dissolves quickly and releases it's active ingredient nonoxynol-9, a powerful nonhormonal spermicide that kills sperm on contact.

If you use VCF, neither you nor your partner will be able to tell its there.  This means that you can enjoy sex with the knowledge that you are protected.  VCF is the most comfortable barrier spermicide ever developed.  There are no bulky inserts that you have to leave in, no applicators to either insert or clean off.  And because VCF does does not contain a lot of inactive ingredients like foams or gels, it is not runny or messy.  It simply washes away naturally with your body's fluids.

How do you use VCF Vaginal Contraceptive Film?
1.  Remove the square of film from the convenient sealed envelope and fold it in half.
2.  Make sure your fingers are dry, place on your second or third finger.
3.  With on swift movement, place it high in your vagina against the cervix.   VCF is effective for one hour.  One film should be used for each act of intercourse.

How effective is VCF Vaginal Contraceptive Film?

VCF Vaginal Contraceptive Film has been the subject of numerous clinical studies conducted worldwide.  These studies show the film to be a safe and effective barrier spermicide when used as directed, within the range of effectiveness as all barrier spermicides.
