| SENIOR WELLNESS PROGRAM |
The Senior Wellness Program offers health education opportunities in order to reduce barriers
associated with receiving health information and resources for persons age 55 and older,
residing in Isabella County. Program activities take place at six meal site locations
operated through the Isabella County Commission on Aging, and one additional site, Andahwod
Continuing Care & Aging Services which is an elder care center owned and operated by the
Saginaw Chippewa Indian Tribe. The purpose of the program is to enable elders to access
current and accurate health information, and to examine and enhance their decision-making
and self-care skills regarding their health. Specifically, the program offers health
information and education designed to assist elders toward assessing their own risk
pertaining to cardiovascular disease and increasing their quality of life.
With trained health professionals from Central Michigan District Health Department
and Central Michigan University, coupled with the assistance of student interns,
the Senior Wellness Program's health education opportunities include scheduled
presentations [on a monthly basis], cardiovascular screenings [twice a year],
and the availability of printed and electronic resources at each congregate elder
site. A major emphasis is placed on elders learning to access the internet and
locating websites that offer quality health information [i.e. Central Michigan
District Health Department [www.cmdhd.org]. Please call (989)773-5921 ext. 8445
for more information.
